Top 5 4K TVs For 2018 – Best Reviewed 4K Televisions

I transformed my life the day that I bought my first 4K TV.

Okay . . . that statement might be a slight exaggeration, but let me tell you: I love TV. I always have.

Getting that new TV was thrilling. You know how it is, when you buy something you want so bad that you rush home to check it out. Yeah . . . that was me.

Finally, I could set up a home theater and experience things I could only get from the theater. From old-school classics to modern blockbusters . . . it will transform how you see, hear, feel, and live almost any type of visual broadcasts. You won’t know what you’re missing until you see it in ultra super-duper mega-uber HD (that’s the technical name for it, isn’t it?). I can’t picture my life without one (forgive the pun!).

So, what is a 4K TV? You most likely already know, but in case you don’t, here’s a super-quick rundown:

A 4K TV means that you’ll get 4x times the resolution compared to a traditional HD1080p unit. That means a much sharper, crisper, more-vivid, more “alive” picture.

Remember how awesome HDTV was when you first saw it after a lifetime of watching standard def? From non-4K to 4K is as big a step up, if not bigger.

The picture quality is crystal clear, with impeccable detail and magnificent color schemes. It allows you such a vivid experience that you get a 3D-like sensation – without the awkward glasses.

You’ll almost feel like you’re at the Super Bowl, but without the $10,000 tickets. If you love nature shows like me, you’ll get blown away. Trust me, few things compare to feeling like you’re on the African plains without the risk of a lion eating you.

With Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube growing, we’re spending more time in front of a screen than ever. The quality of our screens are now more important than ever. These companies know this, which is why the number of shows broadcasting in 4K is blowing up.

And do you wanna know what’s great? Prices of the big brands, like Sony and LG, have plummeted. The technology has reached the point where it’s affordable for everyone. If you were ever going to buy a 4K TV, now is your time.

As soon as you start searching for 4K units, you’ll find there are a ton of options out there. So, which do you go with? If you’re like me, the three things you’re looking for are: resolution, size, and value.

To help you along, check out my favorites:

Let’s start with one of the most affordable 4K TV’s from global giant, Samsung.

Although the price of this TV is only a few hundred bucks, it’s made to impress. The picture quality is stunning HDR with Motion Rate 120. It will capture fast scenes like car chases in astonishing detail. You can make out everything with such clarity that you won’t miss a thing. You’ll get transported into everything you’re watching by the lush, senses-stimulating colors.

Size-wise, you’ve got plenty of options. From 40 inches, all the way to 75 inches, you can get a fantastic big screen without splashing all your cash.

Most of the outputs are on the side, which is great for accessibility. Plugging and unplugging gadgets and accessories will be a breeze. The OneRemote works with all devices: XBox, Apple TV, and anything else you need. It’s intuitive to use, allowing you to put your feet up and mindlessly navigate your TV.

Now for the not-so-great . . .

As I lift my TV up onto the stand, I’m a little concerned about how wobbly it feels. It won’t topple over on its own, but you will have to protect it from unnecessary knocks while moving it, cleaning it . . . that sort of thing. I recommend investing in a cheap security strap that will help keep you TV secure.

Another weakness is that the screen resolution gets poorer when viewed from the side. Depending on your room’s configuration, this might be an issue. You’ll want to take this into account to maximize everyone’s viewing experience.

If your question is “should I buy this TV,” my answer is:

If your budget is around $300-$500 for a 4K TV, and want to go with a trusted big brand – jump on it!

Wow. This TV packs a lot of features while still coming in at a fair price of around $700.

The real cool factor for the Roku is how it’s incorporated Dolby Vision HDR with brilliance. This makes the picture quality feel lifelike. Characters and landscapes pop out of the screen – it’s beautiful.

Lighting is great, too. A full array LED backlighting, with local dimming controlled by smart technology. The LED illuminates when you need a bright resolution, and dims when the program calls for darker. This is whole lot more sophisticated than the traditional edge LED lighting.

Roku’s a beast, of course. They offer more than 4,000(!!!) channels. This adds up to an uncountable number of movies, series, sporting events, and more. It’s paradise for anyone like me. If you can spend your nights binge-watching Game of Thrones without shame, this is for you.

The remote is simple but effective. It comes with voice technology and a headphone jack. Want to crank up the volume without disturbing your family or neighbors? Not a problem.

My only issue with the Roku is that the audio quality isn’t top-notch. Don’t misunderstand me. It’s good, but given the amazing picture quality in the form of Dolby Vision, the audio isn’t quite cinema-grade. Luckily, this is an easy fix with a pair of surround-sound speakers. For the total price of the TV, I’m happy to live with it.

All in all, this TV is proof that you don’t have to spend $1000’s of dollars to get a good quality, high spec 4K TV. It’s a step up from the Samsung MU6300. If your budget stretches that bit farther, this might be the best 4K Dolby Vision TV available.

Specifications:
  • Dimensions: 49 x 28.3 x 3 inches
  • Access to over 4,000 streaming channels featuring more than 450,000 movies and TV episodes via Roku TV
  • Pairs 4K Ultra HD picture clarity with the contrast, color, and detail of Dolby Vision HDR. The end result is a startling, lifelike picture.
  • Full-array LED backlighting with 72 local dimming zones. This produces deep blacks and excellent picture quality.
  • 120Hz refresh rate. This allows viewing fast-moving action scenes without motion blur
  • Inputs: 3 HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 (one with HDMI ARC). 1 USB (media player). RF. Composite. Headphone Jack. Optical Audio Out. Ethernet.

Here is one of the latest offerings from popular brand LG.

The UJ7700 has a metallic frame and stand, making this solid mid-range TV look sleek and expensive.

The picture quality is great. The colors are effervescent, with decent brightness, contrast that rivals more expensive models. If you’ve been fortunate to experience some of the high-end LG units, this model won’t reach quite the same heights. That’s a statement on the quality of high-end LG models, not a negative on the UJ7700.

You won’t notice any difference if you’re using your TV for everyday viewing at home. Those real video aficionados, who love a full HD cinema experience? They’ll find that as the screen goes darker it goes into a grayish hue. Still this TV delivers way more than you’d expect for the price. I appreciated the anti-glare screen. This guarantees great picture quality, even in rooms flooded by natural light.

Additionally kick the TV into HD mode and your screen will come to life in even more vibrancy. As with the TCL, you’ll get Dolby Vision, LED backlighting and local dimming. Make no mistake about it: you’ll have the latest in screen technology.

The TV has optimization for services like Netflix, so you can watch your streams without a hitch. The playback quality combined with the Dolby is stunning.

The 55UJ7700 is easy to set up in minutes, saving you time and a headache. It feels sturdy on the stand and comes with safety straps. If you have small children running around your house, this is much appreciated. Your little ones are well-protect from any risk of harm.

To make the most of your LG, you’ll want to navigate to picture mode settings and configure it to a more cinematic feel. If you’re more knowledgeable, you’ll enjoy being able to customize your resolution. The results are visible immediately. Nice.

This 4K TV is an excellent buy. With the ability to play streaming services and channels at superb quality, it’s good value for money.

Dreamt of having a home cinema that delivers an unreal viewing experience? This is the TV that will get you there.

The Sony 850D is a beautiful model that is so thin that it sits without effort in your space or mounted on your wall. The majority of the outputs are at the back or on the side for ease of access.

Speaking of the screen . . . the caliber of color resolution and brightness are so good that you won’t find it in many other models. State-of-the-art 4K HDR and the TRILUMINOS display combine to make this possible.

TRILUMINOS (fun to say, isn’t it?) claims to offer more color variety and depth than any other brand out there. Finally, the Motionflox Xr 960 ensures that your picture is always crisp. Those intense action shots won’t skip a beat.

My only criticism? If you turn up your volume to the max, the audio can get a little distorted. That’s nitpicking, though.

This TV is the Rolls Royce of 4K TV’s. If you’re feeling indulgent, it’ll be a statement piece in your home for a good few years. Have a blast watching home TV at its absolute pinnacle. And hey, make the neighbors a little jealous while you’re at it.

Specifications:
  • Refresh Rate: 120Hz (Native); Motionflow XR 960 (Effective)
  • Backlight: LED (Edge-Lit)
  • Smart Functionality: Yes
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): TV without stand: 75.5″ x 43.8″ x 2.9″, TV with stand: 75.5″ x 46.3″ x 15.9″

If you’re ready to spend serious money on an epic TV, this is my second pick. Don’t worry about the 2016 tag; the TV remains elite, and at a reduced price to boot.

The Sony 750D packs many of the features of the 850D but at a more tolerable price. If the 850D impressed you, and you’re willing to skimp on one or two high-spec features, this is a great alternative.

As with its more expensive “big brother,” the 750D has a stylish, thin build. It’s steel-based and will look elegant in your home.

As you might expect, this unit comes packed with all the cool features you want in your smart TV. The smart remote includes a Netflix button so you can click right into your favorite shows. You can connect your TV with Spotify – perfect for a night chilling at home, or a fun house party.

What about that all-important picture quality?

The more expensive 850D edges ahead with its full array LED backlighting. The 750D’s direct LED, as nice as it is, isn’t as flawless. This makes the black level marginally richer. If you’re looking for an excellent TV for home use, this difference shouldn’t bother you. If you’re more of an expert . . . maybe. It’s fair to mention when the details matter.

The other technical difference is that the 750D does not have the TRILUMINOS display. This makes the color more accurate. If you want a viewing experience as close to reality as possible, not exaggerated for effect, this is it.

In every other aspect, the two have identical performances. Both use MotionFlow XR960, tech which adds a thrill to fast-paced movies and video games.

My only small disappointment comes with the sound quality. I wish Sony had incorporated a bass-boosting speaker to complete the theatrical experience. But . . . if you take, like, 10 minutes to do a little tweaking with the settings, you’ll be fine. Plus, by spending less on a unit that’s so close to the 850D, you’ll have cash left to invest in an external audio system.

Top tip: Make sure your software is up to date to keep your 750D operating at its prime level.
